D.I.V.A. Day
Dive Into Vocal Artistry
Saturday, January 11, 2025
Holy Innocents Episcopal Church | 805 Mt. Vernon Hwy. Atlanta, GA
D.I.V.A. Day, hosted by Song of Atlanta Show Chorus, offers a meticulously designed one-day workshop aimed at introducing treble vocalists in grades 9-12 to the intricacies of a cappella music. This immersive experience covers both the technical aspects and the expressive performance elements of the art form. The workshop will be held on Saturday, January 11, 2025 from 9:00am - 5:00pm. Participants will take part in rehearsals, enjoy lunch together, and perform D.I.V.A. Day music selections during a live public performance at the conclusion of the event. This performance will also include other local a cappella groups. Parents are encouraged to attend.
Tessa Walker is the choir director at Seneca Valley High School in Germantown, Maryland. There, she directs four choirs and vocal directs the musical theatre productions. She is also proud to have created a special education adaptive music curriculum at her school. Though she now resides in Maryland, she grew up in Georgia, graduating with a Bachelor's Degree in Choral Music Education with a History Minor from Kennesaw State University.
Tessa has been a barbershopper since 2010 (joining at age 14) with many contests, camps, and conventions under her belt. She is a proud member of the Barbershop Harmony Society, Sweet Adelines International, and Harmony, Inc. In past years, she won the 2018 Sweet Adelines International Rising Star Quartet Competition and the 2019 Harmony Incorporated International Quartet Contest with her quartet, Hot Pursuit! Through her decade plus in the barbershop world, she has competed as the lead in seven different quartets, Song of Atlanta Show Chorus, Metro Voices Chorus, and Northern Blend Chorus.
Her passion is diverse youth involvement and she strives to bring her love of barbershop to the young people she meets. Fun Fact: She actually discovered barbershop during Song of Atlanta's 2010 DIVA day workshop and is overjoyed to be coming back full circle to help lead the event this year!
