Highlights from Phoenix

Some awesome SOA memories from the 74th annual Sweet Adelines International Convention last week in Phoenix:

  • Sharing a riser rehearsal room with Spirit of the Gulf and performing for each other

  • Our Region 14 - Heart of the Blue Ridge friends in Carolina Harmony Chorus winning the Championship in the Harmony Classic Division A Competition

  • Our dear coach, Ryan Heller, and Alamo Metro Chorus winning 2nd place in the Harmony Classic Division AA Competition as well as the Most Entertaining Award

  • Our President, Susan Milani, giving each of us lovingly personalized note cards (we number 62 excluding her)

  • Our four quartets, Presto Quartet, Shenanigans Quartet, Grit & Grace Quartet, and Extra Quartet giving stunning performances in the Quartet Semifinal Competition, all making it into the Top 30!

  • Earning our spot in the Top 10 Choruses and moving on to the Finals!

  • Presto! Quartet brilliantly executing a hilarious Finals package and winning 4th place in the world!

  • Hearing The Ladies sing one of Melody Hine Arrangements in their Championship-winning Finals Package

  • Being visited and/or coached by Ryan Heller, Sandy Marron, Tim Marron, Lori Lyford, Kim Wonders, Natalie Allen, Faith Miller, Michael Gellert, Gary Steinkamp, Martini Quartet, and (of course) Clay Hine along with many others

  • Watching Melody Hine singing with the Starlettes in full superhero costume among all the beautiful outfits and crowns in the chorus of Rising Star Champions

  • Cheering on Jean Danaher as she was presented as a 50-year member while in full superhero costume

  • Our Region 23 friends (Never forget!), Metro Nashville Chorus, winning a 7th place chorus medal as well as the Harmony Achievement Award

  • Barb Newman competing in two choruses at her first ever Sweet Adelines competition and taking home two Top 5 Medals (Spirit of the Gulf took 5th place!)

  • Seeing old friends from near and far, especially former members who now live elsewhere

  • Sharing great times with our members’ family members who joined us in Phoenix

  • Earning our first ever Most Entertaining Award!

  • Placing in our highest position ever, 3rd place, in the Sweet Adelines International Chorus Competition!
